For a while now I have been following the postings by Garr Reynolds on his blog Presentation Zen. For me it has lots of wonderful ideas, information and resources, but more importantly it challenges me to think about what I do with people in my presentations. Garr has posted up a video of one of his presentations he gave to Google staff in the use - about presentations. As a teacher, educator and student I found the video very interesting and rewarding and I have started to make changes to my presentations to reflect the ideas provided by Garr.
I was asked by a friend recently who would you look to get as a Keynote for an ICT conference, I did not initially answer the question as I needed thinking time. Upon reflection what ICT conferences need for keynotes are people that can show good practice and model simple effective ideas that apply the technology we are hoping our staff and students use. Communication and presentation is critical and being able to do it effectively, model it and support its development must surely be a focus and as such maybe we need to go backwards to move forwards, taking stock of all the ICT developments and focus on activities that support the embedding of skills and knowledge rather than always being out on the bleeding edge.
The following video clip is long at 72 mins - so grab a drink and take the time.
Fantastic video Tony - just what i need right now. Thanks for posting this. Let's see if I can employ some of this sound advice at the SLAV conference!! Just writing a blog post about it and of course I will link you in.
