Game Playing Flash Back ... Lego Style

I just love the following clip - one for the simple idea and execution but secondly as a great way for students to create a movie with simple, accessible resources. I know schools have used Lego thousands of times to create stop motion video - this is just another idea and clip to inspire and challenge their story telling/creative imaginations. Enjoy

Who - Light - Sparks & DJ's

If only this could be part of the curriculum at school. I loved science at school and was always keen on music - add a few sparks with a shot of man made lightning a great TV sound track and you have the following clip.

Juggling - I wonder if they still do this at Uni

When I studied for my primary teaching degree at a wonderful place in Adelaide called Magill, I majored in physical education and related disciplines. One of the activities we had to undertake in our first year course was to learn how to juggle , which led onto circus skills. The idea around this activity was for me as a student to explore and understand skill acquisition and development as well as putting myself in a zone of learning that was not initially comfortable. This situation is so relevant today with the acquisition of skills and knowledge with ICT, it may not be physical but for a lot of people the acquisition of skills and knowledge is seen as a major risk.

The following TED clip is from Michael Moschen (2002) on juggling i like this clip because of its links to applying this skills with learning - the complexity of the skill development and the capacity to break down the skills and applications. Watch for the demo and discussion around the 5 ball juggling pattern and his breakdown of the skill and links to learning - "why the hell should I learn this".

Just for the record I can still juggle today.

TeachersTV comes to OZ

It was brought to my attention this evening by a friend from my days in Alice Springs that there is a new video site out on the web - and it's for Australians with our content. TeachersTV has extended its reach from the UK to our shores.

You will need to register to access the site, there are a number of videos however over time I am sure this will grow especially once this site gets out and about. Check it out - thanks Wayne.

Podcasting Explained - in plain english

Here is another one of those "plain english" video's developed by the guys at CommonCraft Show, the simplicity of the video and use of basic props is fantastic. As teachers and students we can learn a lot from this approach - easy to make and share and provides a wealth of information.
